Ofsted and CQC to re-visit SEND services in South Gloucestershire from Monday 10 February

We have been notified by Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) that they will carry out a re-visit to evaluate how effectively leaders have addressed the areas of serious weaknesses detailed in the written statement of action (WSOA) for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

The WSOA followed the previous inspection that took place between in November 2017 of the services the council and its health and education partners provide to identify and meet the needs of children and young people who have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

The re-visit will take place from Monday 10 to Wednesday 12 February.

During the re-visit, Ofsted and CQC inspectors will be keen to speak to as many children and young people and their parents and carers as possible, specifically about the weaknesses identified in the WSOA.

Parents and carers will be invited to take part in an online survey from noon on Monday 3 February to noon on Friday 7 February. An open meeting will also be held on the evening of Monday 10 February that will give parents and carers of children and young people with SEND the opportunity to meet the inspectors face to face. This will be a group meeting (not a 1:1 drop-in) and the focus of it will be set by the inspectors, based on the WSOA.

The re-visit will also include meetings with senior leadership from health, education and social care, health and education provider visits and an open session with young people.

Details will follow soon about the meeting venue and how you can register your interest through South Glos Parents & Carers, as well as more information and links to the survey.
