Womankind, Bristol Women's Therapy Centre
Provides a helpline, counselling, group therapy and on-going support for women in the Bristol area. Specialist and confidential services are provided to women experiencing mental health problems, including depression, anxiety, stress, domestic abuse, problems arising from past physical, emotional and sexual abuse, rape, self injury and relationship difficulties. Womankind aims to help women improve their mental health and wellbeing by providing high quality services that are accessible and safe.
Services Provided:
Telephone Helpline: provides confidential and non-judgemental listening support for any woman experiencing emotional distress, including specific advice and support for women experiencing domestic or sexual
abuse. It also provides information and signposting to services offered by Womankind and other organisations. 24hr message service.
Our services include:

General counselling - Up to six months counselling if you live in Bristol and can’t afford to pay for therapy yourself. We ask for a donation towards the cost of your counselling sessions depending on what you can afford to contribute. Please don’t worry if you can’t afford to make a donation as we can still help you.

Specialist Rape and Sexual Abuse Counselling - Free and confidential counselling if you have experienced recent or historic rape, sexual assault or sexual abuse. This service is for women in Bristol and delivered in partnership with the Bristol Sexual Violence Consortium and SARSAS, (Somerset and Avon Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Service).If you would like to make an appointment to see someone, please call our partner agency SARSAS on 0808 801 0456 or 0117 929 8868 who can discuss your needs and refer you into a service which best suits your support needs.
Specialist Abuse Counselling - If you’ve experienced violence, abuse or exploitation then we can support you with one to one counselling from therapists who are experienced in helping people who have suffered trauma. Our Safer Women’s Project is a free and confidential service for all women including refugee, trafficked and asylum seeking women.Can’t speak English? Don’t worry as we have trusted and confidential interpreters.

Group Therapy - We offer groups for women of all ages, cultures and backgrounds. A therapy group can provide you with longer term support and can help you better understand and manage difficulties? such as depression or anxiety. In the safe environment of the group, you can take the time you need to work through difficulties with other women. Being listened to and understood can also help you feel less isolated.Our groups run weekly on Monday mornings and Thursday afternoons and are held in Central Bristol. Our premises are accessible with a ramp, lift, parking and accessible toilet (on ground floor). You can also tell us of any other access needs you have, so that we can ensure these are supported.

You will need to live in Bristol and be unable to afford to pay for therapy yourself to join one of these groups. We may ask for a donation towards the cost of your sessions depending on what you can afford to contribute. Please don’t worry if you can’t afford to make a donation as we can still help you.

Befriending Service - Our befriending service supports women to get back on their feet. A volunteer befriender can provide you with company, a listening ear and a shoulder to lean on. Befrienders can help you to get out and about, develop new interests, improve your routine, build new friendships and support networks, increase your confidence and self-esteem.

We support isolated women living in South Gloucestershire and Bristol to improve their mental health and wellbeing. Our Bristol service is for women have been raped or sexually abused.
If you would like to have a befriender, please ask your support worker, sexual violence worker or a health care professional to make a referral.

We also have Volunteer opportunities in administration, helpline and befriending. Full training and expenses provided.

Our services are in high demand and you may have to wait a while before you get an appointment. Our helpline service can provide you with on-going support whilst you are waiting.

Fees:
General counselling and group therapy: women may be asked for a donation towards the cost depending on what they can afford to pay. No one is turned away if they are unable to make a donation.
