Bristol City Robins Foundation

ALP service description

Our ALP provision is designed to support young people in areas where they need it most. We do this through offering both part time and early intervention sessions. Through the provision, learners are support through a diverse range of activities that supports the school’s academic curriculum. Additionally, students will participate in community engagement and volunteering, enhancing their leadership and communication skills and having the opportunity to gain qualifications. This qualifications not only provides academic value but also hones their skill set, making them community role models.

All activities have defined learning objectives, focusing on students' social and teamwork skills, emotional well-being, self-regulation, resilience, confidence, and independence. These objectives are pursued through tailored activities in small groups or on an individual basis, featuring external speakers and offsite visits for an immersive and engaging experience.

We use physical activity to not only support physical health but also to foster teamwork, social skills, problem-solving, resilience, and soft skills applicable in various settings, including volunteering and work experience.

We prioritise inclusivity, working closely with schools and students to accommodate individual needs. This includes adapting lessons for accessibility, maintaining a low staff-to-student ratio, offering one-on-one mentoring sessions, and providing specialised equipment and technology for students with additional needs.

Our staff are trained in trauma-informed support, utilising a combination of physical and classroom-based activities, guest speakers, and visits. Mental health and well-being are integral to our provision, with clear guidelines for student engagement and trust-building.

We maintain a structured environment, catering to students who have experienced trauma, ensuring clear communication and choice for students who seek control. Alternative spaces and one-on-one sessions are available, focusing on students' strengths and competencies to boost their confidence.
