Social Skills learning for autistic children and young people

Generally speaking our social skills programmes would cover the following topics, but it really depends on what the child/ young person or group needs (we carry out initial assessments prior enrolment):

o   Conversation skills - turn taking, sharing, understanding multiple perspectives

o   Teamwork - negotiation and compromising

o   Understanding friendships

o   Accepting yourself self-esteem and resilience (including how to deal with bullying)

We provide the above through clubs and groups that involve your child/ children interest. Our goal is to:

1.     Engage and involve through the young person’s shared interest. This is an essential ingredient to get children and young people excited about learning.

2.     Provide real-life opportunities for practice. Through our social groups and clubs, teenagers work together to communicate, negotiate, compromise, and encourage each other, in an environment where they feel safe.

We now provide social skills learning on a virtual format (Skype or Zoom).

Session Information
The sessions aim to support social skills learning for children and young people on the autism spectrum. The groups are small – max 7 to 8 learners. The number of participants within each group is limited to ensure each young person has individual goals and support from the facilitators. Every group program is individualised to its members and the group dynamics as a whole
as it is delivered differently depending on the profiles
skill levels
goals and learning styles of the children and young people.
