Bristol Samaritans

Bristol Samaritans provide free confidential and non-judgemental telephone helpline service to any person seeking emotional support, and particularly those in imminent danger of self harm or of taking their own life. You can call them for free using a landline or mobile on 116123.

An email service is also provided to callers on jo@samaritans.org where a caring response will be received within 24 hours.

From our branch in the centre of Bristol we provide confidential emotional support to those in need of a safe space to talk over problems, feelings, stress or anything that maybe worrying them, especially those in extreme despair.

During 2019 our 170 trained volunteers responded to over 38,300 contacts for support by phone, email and face to face visits to our branch. In addition there were face to face contacts from prison inmates with Listeners we trained in the prisons we support. I should say that 80% of our calls do not express suicidal thoughts, but just need a space to talk. We also provide talks for community groups, schools and other organisations interested in our work. We have partnerships with a number of local organisations, including local health services, CRUSE and as noted above, in HM Prison Bristol and HM Prison Eastwood Park.
