FACE (Foundation for Active Community Engagement)

FACE is a Youth and Community charity based in Filton which provides many sessions for a wide range of people; primarily focused on children and young people, or those who are 'vulnerable' (e.g. people who are disabled or elderly). We run sessions from different venues across South Glos and coming soon more venues in Bristol, and also currently deliver the Bristol Autism Project.

FACE’s Core Values are Fun, Respect, Empowerment, Integrity, Equality and Making a Difference - these values underpin the way we work with others.

We ensure our activities are accessible, educational, and developmental for all those who wish to access them.

We encourage members' involvement in decision-making and planning activities and at our youth club sessions we often have multiple activities going on so that young people can self-select their preferred choice.

Description

Where we use the word ‘disabilities’ we are referring to anyone with (diagnosed or not) learning, social, emotional, behavioural, or physical disabilities, developmental delays, or sensory issues including autistic spectrum disorders.*

At FACE we work with a range of people from all walks of life, and some of our members have disabilities. We try to look past the label of ‘disabilities’ and we focus very much on what people can do, and not what they can’t, and we hope that every member who joins any of our groups would develop their own independence and voice.

We encourage our members to come along to any of our age-appropriate evening groups but we also recognise that sometimes people with disabilities can become isolated or left-out with their mainstream peers, and therefore we have a designated programme with groups specifically supported with additional staffing and appropriate training to better facilitate members with disabilities engaging with us.

Notes

FACE is based in a 1960s building. It has 3 steps between two levels of the building. There is a portable ramp. The toilets are not as accessible as we would like but sadly its a rented building from the church next door. We are looking at funding options to improve our accessibility more for those with physical impairments.

We make our activities as accessible as we can and cater for a wide range of people. We do not provide 1-2-1 or personal care. You must bring a support worker with you if needed. For youth clubs and transition sessions this should not be a member of your immediate family as our sessions are to build independence and resilience away from the family.
