Green Community Travel
Each area has a Community Transport organisation, WECA have added CT organisations to the TravelWest Website (https://travelwest.info/community-transport/) so you can enter an area and see the relevant Community Transport.
Green Community Travel covers this area:
Passengers within this area can join us as members, this is the area that our Ring and Ride service will travel within. Our Voluntary Car service will travel outside of this area, for hospital/medical appointments but also for special social journeys.
Jan-Dec £20 a year- or £10 from July onwards
Ring and Ride:
Monday-Friday 07:30-17:00- this can be used for local journeys such as; shopping; GP appointments; dentist; seeing friends and family; hairdressers and clubs.
Journeys can be booked as far in advance as a passenger would like, we encourage this for medical appointments. Passengers can also make regular bookings so have the same journey each week and call us if they need to cancel.
Minibuses are fully accessible and wheelchairs and scooters can be accommodated (subject to a risk assessment before travel.)
Passengers pay a fare for each journey, with discount for bus pass holders.
Voluntary Car Service:
Primarily used to enable our passengers to get to hospital appointments. We ask for as much notice as possible, ideally 2 weeks’ notice. We use volunteers for this service who use their own cars, passengers pay a £2 admin fee to go towards our costs of paperwork/calls etc, as we aren’t funded for this service. Passengers then pay the volunteers £0.50 per mile on the day of travel.
We will always ask passengers how long they will be- if a passenger will be up to 1.5 hours the drivers will wait, if it is longer they may go home and come back so passengers would be charged double the mileage.
This service is very similar to Voluntary Car but we use our own vehicles which are fully accessible. Passengers still pay a £2 admin fee but will pay a set fare instead of a mileage cost.
We help community groups and charities by hiring out our minibuses. Groups need to be a member of our service and we have a high success rate of covering bookings with our team of brilliant volunteer drivers. Groups can also provide their own driver (driving licence will need to be checked and the person would need an up to date MiDAS qualification.) again all minibuses are accessible and can be configured for different group’s needs.
Friends of GCT Trips:
This is an additional service which is a monthly programme of different trips around the local area, its main aims are to reduce social isolation and loneliness. Trips vary from pub lunches to garden centre visits and are a good way for passengers to meet new people and socialise, whilst also seeing some of the local area and enjoying a nice day out.
Our office is generally open from 09:00-15:00 however we have had to reduce hours temporarily due to staff difficulties with the road closure due to the motorway bridge. Temporary hours are 09:00-14:30.
