Support for stroke survivors
We support people who are recovering from a stroke and their carers with a range of projects and activities.
Many services and activities are free and do not require an assessment from adult care.
Bristol after stroke
Bristol after stroke (BAS) offers support, advice, information, counselling, short courses, advocacy, family support and local stroke groups. You can find out more on their page for stroke support groups.
There are often short courses to support different aspects of recovery from stroke. You can find out more on the short courses page.
The stroke café
The South Gloucestershire stroke café gives people affected by stroke and their carers an opportunity to get together in an informal setting. You can get advice from key workers, share experiences and make friends.
The stroke café runs fortnightly in Downend and you can find dates on the BAS page for stroke cafés.
There are conversation groups for people who have communication difficulties after a stroke. These groups help people regain their confidence in using their speech in everyday social situations.
You can find out more by contacting the speech and hearing outpatients department at Cossham Hospital on 0117 3408525.
Different Strokes is run by younger stroke survivors for younger stroke survivors. It has a network of exercise and stroke support groups for stroke survivors across the UK.
