Where to go and community activities for young people with SEND

Being part of a community is an important step in preparing yourself for adulthood. It can give you a sense of being independent from your family, help develop your confidence, make new friends and have things to do locally.

There are many ways that you can become involved in your local community, other than through education or employment.

This might involve taking part in a sport, volunteering or just visiting places in the community such as libraries, leisure centres or youth groups.

Our online directory contains details of groups and providers of services to help you discover what is going on in your local area. If you are over the age of 18, you can also search the Wellaware website for activities and events for adults.

You can also find groups and activities in the transitions booklet on Community Inclusion.

Volunteering

Southern Brooks Community Partnerships have various volunteering opportunities within Kingswood, Patchway, Yate, Filton, The Stokes, and Thornbury.
