Carers breaks service and how to access

The Carers Breaks Service is a free service which enables carers in South Gloucestershire to have some time to themselves by providing regular on-going sits of 2 to 3 hours (usually weekly or fortnightly) with a DBS checked volunteer.

For carers, it provides a much-needed break. Many carers use this time to meet friends, go shopping, attend a fitness class or even get a pedicure. This service can be the only chance they get to take a break from their caring responsibilities, giving them an important opportunity to recharge their batteries.

For the cared-for person, it offers an opportunity to talk to someone new, in the comfort of their own home environment. At some ‘sits’, the volunteer and the cared-for person play board games, read together, watch TV or look at old photographs.

For volunteers, the list of benefits is almost endless! For some who were carers, it’s the chance to give something back and support people who are still carers. For others, it’s the opportunity to meet new people.
