The Carers emergency card

The Carers emergency card is a free service for carers who live with the person they care for or who visit them regularly at their home in South Gloucestershire. The card ensures the safety of the person you care for, if something should happen to you.

The Carers emergency card identifies you as a carer, shows your name, a unique identification number and an emergency telephone number.

When you apply for a Carers emergency card you will also be registered for the Emergency carers relief service.  As part of the registration you will be asked to supply contacts for people who may be able to take over some of your caring role in an emergency.

If you have an accident or you are taken seriously ill your carers card can be used to alert a 24 hour emergency call centre that the person you care for needs help.

In the event of an emergency the call centre will make contact with the people you have nominated as emergency contacts to let them know that the person you care for needs help.

If your emergency contacts are not available or you don’t have anyone you can nominate as a contact, the information about your emergency or illness is then passed onto the Rapid Response Team operated by South Gloucestershire Council. This team then ensures the  safety of the person you care for.

Discounts available for holders of the Carers emergency card

Carers who hold a carers emergency card can use it to obtain discounts in retail outlets, cafes and restaurants and for days out. Details of available discounts can be found on the Carers Support Centre website.
